Appearance & Presentation (Says It *All*)

(publisher’s note:This is the second article in an occassional series of from a self-described Networking Rookie who is putting his military swat team leader training to work as a civilian networker for the Elevator Marketing Store, and one of our editors. His observations are interesting, sometimes amusing and always educational.)

The Networking Rookie, Rules and A Referral Club

(Intro by Mindy) Newcomers to networking are hitting the scene every day. Most of them will tell you “The economy made me do it”. Some of us may have been at this for so long that we forgot what our “first time” was like. We bring with us past experiences..or NO experience and try to make networking work for us. In Jeshua Barnes’ case he puts his Swat Team Leader skills to use…in a good way; by being strategical, tactical, and prepared. And he’s learning to adapt. Jeshua is a new member of the NEF editorial team. I think he has The Right Stuff… Read on….

Not Exactly Seeing The Big Picture Here

Disclaimer: This is a bit of a rant…I promise to keep it short.
Periodically I will call the networking groups that are listed on the San Diego Networking Guide to verify that their meeting information is still current. It’s common for groups to change leadership throughout the year, so I always seem to talk to a [...]

3 Keys to Networking

By Brad Sugars
Personal rapport is vital to sales and building your business, and there is no better way to do that than networking and increasing the size of your “net.” That said, I’ve found a lot of people simply don’t know the best ways to network, or they see networking as something that it isn’t [...]

Bad Nametag Examples

By Mindy Selinger
This is the beginning of a running collection of bad name tag examples. I wish that I had started collecting them earlier. A missed opportunity was the woman with a scrolling LED powered “banner” type name tag that was positioned at the center of a well-supported V-Neck sweater. What was her name or her business? I don’t know. The position of that tag and the length of its message was too much for me. She said the tag was placed “close to her heart.” Whatever. But as you will see, men can be guilty of poor placement choices, as well…

Networking Is Not What It Used To Be

By Ron Sukenick
Taking your networking efforts to the next level requires shift to NetBeing™
Handing out your business card at monthly Chamber of Commerce meetings no longer qualifies as networking. Today’s business leaders know that real, profit-generating networking requires more. More strategy, more connectedness, and more trust. I’d suggest we’re moving into an era where the [...]

Are you trying too hard for the perfect pitch?

by Dave Clarke, NRG Business Networks
Many business networking events have a slot where you have to introduce yourself to the group. People can get so wrapped up in this that they think this is what business networking is all about and spend ages trying to craft the perfect ‘elevator pitch’. Forgetting that time is better [...]

Developing a POWERFUL 30-Second Elevator Speech That Could Double Your Business

By Alan Boyer

First let me tell you what NOT to do. Don’t talk about you, don’t talk about your products. In as short a statement as possible tell them the measurable results you deliver, and who you deliver them to. Then shut up.

Don’t try to tell them EVERYTHING in one breath. Tell them something that [...]
