The Elevator Speech contest has been announced! Are you excited? Are you ready to win? – What’s that… you aren’t sure what an elevator speech is?
Well, here is a wonderful article I ran across during my voyage through the web-o-verse on the basics and background of an elevator speech. How to Craft an Effective Elevator Speech by Chris King.
Chris does a wonderful job of giving us an eloquent explanation of what an elevator speech is, why we need to prepare one, and where, when and to whom we will be presenting our words of gold.
The one thing that stood out for me is that Chris is not a marketing expert, she is a storyteller. And encourages you to tell the story of your business in your elevator speech. Here’s my first draft – Networking Event Finders came about as a result of networking! At a meeting I attended, I overheard a woman, who owns a national networking organization, complaining about the lack of quality calendar and event sites to publish her upcoming meetings on. A couple of days later at a lunch meeting with a web designer from my referral group, Networking Event Finders was born. Now we are a national business networking calendar with 60 local networking guides all over the United States. We list business networking events for free and of course we are a free resource to find business networking events in your area. All I can say is Networking Works!
What story or metaphor can you envision for your business? And how will it assist you in creating your elevator speech for the contest? Will it be something lighthearted and funny or powerful and moving? I hope you are as inspired as I was by Chris’ article.

I love people getting a chance to create an elevator speech, which I like to think of as their passion and purpose, expressed powerfully and concisely. How can we expect others to “get” us and what we do, if we don’t take the time to say it in a way that they can understand it easily. Thanks for all you do to help people network.

Hi Dawn,
I agree. It’s important that we give a clear and eloquent description of our business and what we do. Thank you for the time and hard work you put into business networking! We’re looking forward to the cruise!
