(This is an excerpt from my soon-to-be-published book with the working title: Face to Face Networking in a Social Media World.  If you would like to receive pre-publishing information and special offers (in a few weeks) please send an email to:    book “at”PowerPartnerConnections.com)

You are sitting down to eat at a networking luncheon. After the introduction and opening remarks, the organizer says to “chat among yourselves” for a few minutes before the speaker comes on.  Don’t let the opportunity pass! … If you do not act the Conversation Hogs will take over, or private conversations will start. Act NOW or you will never know who your tablemates are.

Take the lead and suggest “Let’s go around and introduce ourselves. Give us your best 30-second introduction”.  Invite someone to time them, “Does anyone have a second hand on their watch?” (This is important because there is always one person in every group who will talk until they are dragged off the stage). Then invite someone to start. You are now their humble leader.  They will listen when you talk  - Everyone wins.  Be the leader of your table …
